Why Train at Torres BJJ?

World-class instruction, beginner-friendly environment, proven results

Renzo Gracie Lineage

Coach Diego trained at Renzo Gracie Academy in RPB. Learn authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from a direct lineage to the Gracie family - the founders of the art.

Constraints-Led Approach

We don't just drill techniques - we develop problem-solving skills. Our teaching method creates adaptable, creative grapplers who can think under pressure.

All Levels Welcome

From complete beginners to experienced grapplers, everyone trains together. Ego-free environment where learning and growth come first.

YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Meet Coach Diego Torres

Coach Diego is a brown belt under the Renzo Gracie lineage with over 10 years of teaching experience. He's an IBJJF Open medalist and regional competition champion who competed at purple and brown belt levels.

But competition isn't what drives Diego - it's teaching. The Constraints-Led Approach develops thinking grapplers, not robots. Whether you're starting from zero or already have experience, Diego meets you where you are and helps you grow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to be in shape before starting?

A: No. Most people get in shape BY training jiu-jitsu. We have members in their 20s through 60s at all fitness levels. You'll work at your own pace, and you'll be surprised how quickly your cardio improves.

Q: What should I bring to my first class?

A: Just wear workout clothes (t-shirt and athletic shorts or pants) and bring a water bottle. We have loaner gis available for $10, or you can train in your regular workout clothes for your first class.

Q: How long does it take to get a blue belt?

A: Typically 1-2 years with consistent training (3-4 times per week). But the belt is just a marker - your real progress happens every single class.

Q: Will I get hurt?

A: BJJ is a contact sport, so there's always some risk. However, safety is our top priority. We teach you how to "tap" (submit) to avoid injury, and we match beginners with experienced training partners who know how to train safely.

Q: Can I just watch a class first?

A: Absolutely. You're welcome to observe any class. But we'd encourage you to actually try it - the only way to know if BJJ is for you is to experience it.

Q: Do you have contracts?

A: No. All our memberships are month-to-month. You can cancel anytime with 30 days notice.

Q: What's the difference between Gi and No-Gi?

A: Gi uses the traditional kimono (what you see in most BJJ), which allows for grip-based techniques. No-Gi uses rashguards and shorts, and is faster-paced with less grip fighting. We recommend starting with Gi to build a strong foundation.

Q: What if I'm not flexible?

A: You'll gain flexibility by training. Jiu-jitsu doesn't require gymnastic-level flexibility. We have members who couldn't touch their toes when they started.

Q: Do you have showers?

A: Yes. Both men's and women's locker rooms have showers.

Q: Is there parking?

A: Yes, free parking available in the shopping center lot.
